Road Trip – Day Five

Sorry this post is a little late, but when I got to Flagstaff late yesterday I just took it easy and left Facebook alone for the evening.

So, in a nutshell it was another relatively uneventful day. Left Albuquerque about 10 am. It pretty much rained the whole time.

Had lunch in Gallup, one of the few small towns along Route 66 so far that is still pretty much intact. Main drag looks like what I imagine much of the Mother Road looked like 60 or 70 years ago. Cute little shops, restaurants and motels line the downtown historic district. Sadly. it pretty much ends there. Get to the western edge of towns and its mostly deserted or run down.

Gassed up at a Maverick station in Winslow, Arizona. I really should have gotten gas before leaving New Mexico. At $3.29, its about 30¢ more expensive here than Gallup and a good 50¢ more than Oklahoma. Going forward I think I’ll check out Gas Buddy before getting on the road.

Reached Flagstaff about 4:30. Found a reasonable room at a Howard Johnson’s just off the interstate on the east side of town. Took it easy and just watched a little PBS before heading to bed.

Next stop Barstow…
